Paintings on request
Maybe you dream of a painting in a specific colour that has a positive psychological effect on you, or you need a painting in a certain size that will fit your home. If you are crazy about my expression, I will be happy to make paintings on request.
We can discover the story together and talk about what it is in my paintings that affects you. We will then find the expression of your painting together.
I cannot guarantee the exact final look of the painting. The process should have room for artistic freedom. I stick to my stroke and technique – I do not copy the expressions of other artists.
When is a painting art and when is it "just" home decor? Art is a very diffuse term and difficult to explain. But to be classified as art, in my opinion, a painting has to have some soul and a message from the artist. Read more about your own painting and how it, too, becomes art.
Colours affect us
The colours around us affect our emotions and mood and help create the overall atmosphere. Around 70 per cent of all communication is non-verbal. This includes the language of colours. Goethe once said that "it is the eye that perceives and speaks the language of colours" because "the eye is a mirror of the world from the outside and of man from the inside".
When we put words to a painting and our impression of the light and shades of its colours, we gain an insight into the psychological meaning of colours. We perceive colours intuitively.
According to Goethe, colours reflect people from the inside. As an intuitively perceptive person you can become aware of your personal reaction patterns to colours and thereby gain a personal insight into your thoughts, feelings and reactions to colours. We all have a perception of colours, and most of us consider which colours we want in our home or which colour clothes we want to wear.
Paintings follow fashion
Artists are also influenced by fashion. Similar to the fashion in interior design and clothing, paintings also have their fashion. Trends come and go, and the expression of a painting will follow the trends in society to a certain extent. The painting fashion does not change as often as the clothing fashion with several new collections a year.
But just as everybody else, artists are also affected by what we see. And we may even be more influenced by it than others with our good ability to take in visual impressions and let them inspire us in our creative work.
As an artist I am also affected by other trends in society. It could be our changing life style, or I may put focus on our shared values and expressions. Things that we understand because we are Danes and have the same frame of reference, but that would seem weird if seen by an outsider.
What does it really mean "to hold the strings" or "to pull the cat’s tale"? And why is it that we Danes say to children that "if people are lying on the floor, you may step on them"? I like to include these reflections in my paintings.
